James Hype

Born on November 26, 1989, as James Edward Lee Marsland in Wirral, Merseyside, England, James Hype attended Calday Grange Grammar School and resided in Greasby. His journey into the world of music began at the age of 13 when he discovered online music, prompting his parents to gift him DJ decks for his 15th birthday. By 16, Hype secured his first residency as a warm-up DJ at the prestigious Destiny nightclub in Cheshire Oaks. Working as a DJ from the age of 18, Hype played in various clubs and bars across Merseyside and Northern England. His breakthrough came in 2017 with the hit single “More than Friends,” propelling him to fame. In 2018, he collaborated with Craig David on the single “No Drama.” James Hype gained widespread recognition with his signature catchphrase “who does this?” and his 2022 single “Ferrari,” which soared to number one on the charts in the Netherlands, Italy, and Belgium. Adding to his achievements, Hype hosted a late-night radio show on KISS FM from July 2017 to November 2019. He serves as an ambassador for Pioneer DJ, a leading DJ equipment manufacturer, featured in their online videos. Furthermore, Hype is the founder of the Stereohype label, active since 2020, releasing works from producers like R3WIRE, Tita Lau, Zurra, Dots Per Inch, Roxe, and “More Than Friends.”
